Summer holidays are a great time for reading! My best read this holiday was Sebastian Faulks's new book, 'A Week in December'.
What did YOU read?? Let's get some conversation going......

I so enjoyed the little Irish novel "A silent shriek" or whatever it is is called... now I'm reading the Ken Follet novel "Pillars of the earth" because Rob said he enjoyed it. I hope it's worth the effort.
ReplyDeleteI read and loved "The Solitude of Prime Numbers" and also re-read "The Native Commissioer" and "The Wind in the Willows"! Lots of other books still to go - including A Krog's "Begging to be black" which I got from my folks. Will pass it on!
ReplyDeleteWonderful!

ReplyDeletePillars of the Earth is one of my all time favourites, Steph. I agree though; I don't think that many girls will read it. What is the name of the sequel? ("Towards the end of the Earth / world?" - something along those lines?)
ReplyDeleteOh my, if you mant to get angry...read "When a Crocodile eats the Sun" It will make you want to hunt down Robert Magabe and KILL him! Have you got a copy of Shantaram?
ReplyDeleteYes Bee, we have got 2 copies of Shantaram but it does not circulate fast - the girls take forever to read it but email me if you would like me to reserve it for you. (I may not remember to do so from today, sorry!)
ReplyDeleteLoved Pillars of the Earth - gut wrenching but brilliant. I read The greatest show on Earth, am grinding throught Ancestors Tale and read the Boy who Harnessed the wind - the latter should be compulsory reading for our privileged little girls. Also finished reading Bad Science - Brilliant!!!
ReplyDeleteThe Sparrow was absolutely fantastic! can't remember the author's name but if you enjoy science fiction (in a plausable sort of way) and brilliant characterisation, this is a book you should read!
